The City of Winter Park will proudly host “A Hero’s Welcome” parade on Wednesday, January 8, at 2 p.m. in Hannibal Square in downtown Winter Park. The parade will begin near the Winter Park Community Center located at 721 West New England Avenue and will end at the Winter Park Farmers’ Market at 200 West New England Avenue.
The community is invited to help give our soon-to-be-announced hometown hero the biggest welcome home surprise party of all time upon his return from deployment in Afghanistan. Please join us to thank him for his service to our country.
The parade will feature Winter Park Mayor Ken Bradley, City Commissioners, Winter Park Fire-Rescue and Police departments, VFW motorcycle club, marching bands, the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales and lots of American patriotism. Attendees are encouraged to bring handmade signs and wear red, white and blue to celebrate our brave soldier’s coming home.
Business establishments along the parade route will remain open during the parade. Business patrons are encouraged to park in the garage at Pennsylvania and Lyman avenues. Parking opportunities for parade attendees include municipal Lot A at New York Avenue and Morse Boulevard, Park Place parking garage at Park and Canton avenues, and all public parking in the downtown area.
